Our story began in 1868 when miners searching for lead and zinc unexpectedly uncovered a breathtaking underground world filled with crystal formations, stalactites, stalagmites, and other geological wonders. What started as a remarkable discovery soon became one of the region’s most treasured attractions, drawing visitors from across the country to experience the beauty hidden beneath the surface.

Amy Ramirez-McGovern is the Owner and Operator of Crystal Lake Cave in Dubuque, Iowa, bringing more than 20 years of business experience to the tourism and hospitality industry. She is dedicated to preserving and sharing the cave’s natural beauty while creating memorable experiences for local, national, and international visitors. Amy leads with integrity, compassion, and a collaborative approach, believing that empowered teams provide exceptional guest experiences. Outside of the cave, she is passionate about serving her community through volunteerism and mentoring, while embracing a life centered on faith, family, and stewardship alongside her husband, children, and grandchildren.
